With more than twelve pairs of jeans – yeah, I said it – I have never met a pair of denim I didn’t like. So. Many. Options. Straight leg, wide leg, cropped, high rise, extra high rise, distressed, light wash, dark wash – you can never have just one pair. But, I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a few tried & true favorites.
A few weeks ago, I highlighted my crush of recent – the famed Levi’s. If you’re anything like me, Levi’s brings back memories of the 90s. The decade where acid wash was a thing and we wore plaid flannels shirts from our dad’s closet around our waist thinking we were too cool for school. Though I love MOST everything about the decade – see here for details about my love of 90s rap – the clothing was never something I remembered with great fondness.
Even though I was quite hesitant, Levi’s come with their own fan club. I kept hearing rave reviews about how the high waist is flattering on all shapes and sizes, even if you’re Indian and have curves for days. The denim also has very little stretch to it, which means it keeps its shape and doesn’t require twenty minutes in the dryer to shrink back up before you pop them on again. Pro Tip: STOP buying jeans that require this extra step. They are either TOO stretchy or TOO big for you and you don’t need either. You heard it here first.
I finally pulled the trigger on this pair when ShopBop had a 20% promo code – because I am all about a good deal – and I have never looked back. I reach for them time and time again and almost want to buy another pair just in case anything happens to the pair I have. Doomsday attitude, I know, but I like to be prepared for any situation. They run true to size, you just have to commit to twelve hours of breaking them in. I’ll be honest, it’s not light work, but anything worth having is worth the struggle.
Just like peanut butter without jelly, a bomb-ass pair of denim is really nothing without the perfect tee. I used to think that the perfect tee was like a magical unicorn. A thing of legends and folklore. But then, I found this tee from Free People and my whole life changed. I know that sounds a little dramatic but when you have been on the search for something for years, ACTUAL YEARS, the sentiment is well-warranted.
I own this tee from Free People in six colors – DO NOT do the math. Again – not too stretchy – which is SO important and not see-through. Equally important. It is perfect for petite body frames and hits in all the right places. If you are all about high-waisted denim, which you should be, you will be all about this tee. I love it so much I bought two in white – see above reference to doomsday attitude and the need to be prepared for any and all situations.
I have worn it on our morning walks with Cassius and out on dinner dates with Ro. Pro tip: Just throw on a leather or suede jacket over your shoulders for date night and you’ll be all good in the hood. I included some options in the links below because as I keep mentioning, I got you.
Jeans and the perfect tee. It’s a vibe. And I am totally down with it.
Love you. Mean it.
