THAT NEW NEW

Now that the general housekeeping is out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff…

As someone who loves to curl up on the couch under a fuzzy blanket and watch Dateline episodes, you would think social distancing would be my jam. Don’t get me wrong, there are some things I have been loving about our new normal.  Working from home has been nothing short of amazing, I have been able to workout every morning with the Obe Fitness app, which has made me feel particularly badass, I am experimenting with new recipes on the daily, and I get to squeeze Cassius anytime I want.

Sidenote: I know it’s been a minute since I have written a post so just to catch y’all up – we had a baby!  Cassius is nine months old, loves J Balvin (What can I say – he is influenced by his Momma’s music taste.  I swear, we are working on broadening his horizons but I’m not mad at it.), and laughs every time he sneezes.  I am low key obsessed with him. 

Over these last nine weeks, the thing I have been missing the most, is spending some QT with family and friends.  Aside from the sporadic driveway hang, we have been seriously lacking one-on-one time with the people that matter most to us.  I can honestly say, without any reservations, that what I am looking forward to after this is all said and done, is squeezing our loved ones and celebrating these very important connections that have shaped us.

To help me get through those days when I am going through some serious withdrawal, I daydream about a summer barbecue in our backyard with our friends & family, listening to this Khalid jam, kiddos running through the sprinkler, and sparkling rose on repeat.  I have already got the outfit on lock.  I know what you’re thinking – that seems totally unnecessary given we have all been rocking sweats the last two months. But, you gotta stay prepared!

I will be the first to admit – I have been using retail therapy as a way to get through this quarantine.  You try and resist a little package of joy arriving on your doorstep with that new new.  Go on.  Try it!

This arrived a few weeks ago and the minute I ripped open the Zara box, I was obsessed.  I know it doesn’t strike you as super functional but who cares – it’s GORGEOUS.  The ruffle on the shoulder is EVERYTHING and I cannot get enough of it. All you need is one piece to elevate your look from basic to standout, and friends, this is the piece. Word to the wise, size up.   

These high-waisted jeans from Levi’s feel like second skin.  I have already convinced my sister and my bestie that they need a pair like yesterday and they both went straight to Shopbop to bring the package home (Shoutout to you Dad – they listened to your wise words and are better off for it).  Why? Because they are THAT good.  They suck you in in all the right places and mold to your body, ensuring everyone who rocks them looks fresh to death.  What more could you want from a pair of denim?

Nine weeks down – who knows how many more to go.  2020 has ushered in quite a bit of uncertainty.  There is very little you can count on nowadays. So, my advice, focus on the good.  Focus on what you can control.  Look forward to the happier times ahead.  Cherish the time you have with the people you love.  And remember, it doesn’t hurt to rock a dope outfit.  See below for photo evidence.
